The proprietor of the resort Mrs. Swarnim Gurung,
after availing voluntary retirement from the government
service, decided to run a resort in her own village at Kaluk,
West Sikkim with a very new and unique concept and with the
target to ;- |
|
After three years of research and study on different kinds of
hotels and resorts management and the induction of newly
innovated ideas and concepts evolved through the research, now
this village resort totally stand out very unique and different
than others.
The poverty stricken poor school dropout boys and girls who
had never been trained for any kind of works for the hotel
management were selected out from the remote villages and given
in-house training by Mrs. Swarnim Gurung for cooking, services,
house keeping, hygiene, hospitality, cultural programme,
catering, child care etc. for almost one year. These boys and
girls are now being engaged in this resort on profit sharing
basis and not in the traditional salary system. 30% of the total
income of the resort is shared by them whereas 70% is set aside
for investment and repayment of loans. To enhance the further
source of income for those boys and girls besides the shares
that they get from resort income, they are also trained by Miss
Yashi Taj Gurung daughter of Mrs. Swarnim Gurung, for local
cultural dances for entertaining the guest in the evening. The
collections that they get from cultural programmes and tips are
also equally shared by them.
Therefore in true sense they have been made the business
partners in this resort by Mrs. Gurung so that they develop a
sense of belonging and work with more enthusiasm and
responsibility for their prosperity. They have been given homely
and family atmosphere by Mrs. Gurung and they together proudly
call
themselves as
“Mandarin family.” |
